The Working Type
I’m not the kind of person that wants to work all the time
Oliver Vance, Age 5
While we were out running errands, we were talking about a movie, and I asked Oliver if he was ever going to be a bad guy thinking about the characters that he might have found interesting.
He said, “No, Never.” But he thought for another minute and then told me that if he ever didn’t have money he would ask people for it. This seemed like a carefully considered addition to the conversation, since bad guys are often motivated by greed. But then the conversation took a different turn.
Looking quite certain of himself, having done a whole minute of soul searching, Oliver declared, “I’m not the kind of person that wants to work all the time.” It turns out that he doesn’t want to be a bad guy, that may just be too much work. Instead, he will ask for money because it seems so much easier.
